Emergency Care is Covered for Two Types of Problems:

Accidental Injuries

These are physical injuries usually coming from external sources and requiring prompt medical attention. Broken bones, sprains, severe cuts, poisoning and burns are examples of accidental injuries.

Medical Emergencies

These are illnesses or symptoms that could reasonably be expected to result in serious physical impairment or loss of life if not treated immediately. Heart attack, stroke, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, severe breathing difficulty and convulsions are examples.

If your condition is not an emergency but still requires prompt attention, it is best to call or visit your physician. He or she can usually provide the care or direct you to an urgent care facility.

If you have an immediate and unforeseen emergency and taking the time to call your physician may mean permanent damage to your health, you should seek treatment first. Go the nearest hospital emergency room or call 911.

SERVICES INCURRED IN A HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM THAT ARE NOT ACCIDENTS OR LIFE THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCIES ARE NOT COVERED.
